Dear Users,

I have downloaded wien2k_18.2 and followed the instructions given in UG for
installation on a desktop PC having core i7 with ubuntu
16.04 operating system, fortran compiler ifort, math libraries MKL. During
site configuring it showed "word too long". To solve this , I have
replaced "#!/bin/csh -f" with "#!/bin/tcsh -f" in "siteconfig_lapw" file
and have installed tcsh with "sudo apt-get install tcsh" command. Then
"word too long" problem has been resolved and site configuring is done. But
after user configuring, w2web page is not loading. I have found an empty
.bashrc file. At last, I have deleted "w2web.users" and have set new id and
password. Still I am having problem to open w2web.
However on a laptop wien2k17.1 is working fine. Kindly help me.

Someone might be able to help, but you have to provide more information.

Does it give a command not found:

***@computername:~$ w2web
w2web: command not found

That can happen if WIENROOT is not set properly, for example:

***@computername:~$ grep "export WIENROOT" ~/.bashrc
export WIENROOT=

When WIENROOT is set properly to where WIEN2k was installed, does it
give the w2web server started message:

***@computername:~$ gedit ~/.bashrc
***@computername:~$ grep "export WIENROOT" ~/.bashrc
export WIENROOT=/home/username/WIEN2k
***@computername:~$ source ~/.bashrc
***@computername:~$ w2web

Checking for Installation in /home/username/.w2web/computername

w2web server started, now point your web browser to
http://localhost:7890

Or if w2web was previously started like above, where the computer was
not restarted (or w2web was not killed first), it give the port already
in use message:

***@computername:~$ w2web

Checking for Installation in /home/username/.w2web/computername

w2web failed to bind port 7890 - port already in use!
You may want to try w2web -p portnumber

When you setup w2web [
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg15629.html
], did you set it to use it locally (system's hostname: localhost) [
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost ] or remotely (by setting the
system's hostname [
https://askubuntu.com/questions/95910/command-for-determining-my-public-ip
])?

Did you use the same url that w2web gave you (such as that shown above)
with your web browser:

***@computername:~$ firefox http://localhost:7890

Was there an error when you setup w2web, is the an error from the web
browser, or did you have firewall setup blocking the w2web application
(or port used like the port number 7890 [
https://askubuntu.com/questions/410218/how-to-close-an-open-port-in-ubuntu
])?

Hi,

try the following :

*Step 1:*

*sudo apt-get install tcsh*

*Step 2:*

*sudo update-alternatives --config csh*

Select *tcsh* from the list of choices available.

It worked for me.

Faithfully,

Dear Chouaib AHMANI FERDI,

Before site configuring "*Step 1:** sudo apt-get install tcsh*" is done.
After "*Step 2: sudo update-alternatives --config csh* Select *tcsh* from
the list of choices available." again should I site configure??

Dear Gavin,
I have intel openmpi in my PC but am not doing parallelization. The
following are the compiler options..once the compilation is done should I
again recompile it??

***********************************************************************
* Specify compiler and linker options *
***********************************************************************

Since intel changes the name of the mkl-libraries from version to version,
you may find the linking options for the most recent ifort version at
http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-mkl-link-line-advisor/

Recommended options for system linuxifc are:
Compiler options: -O1 -FR -mp1 -w -prec_div -pc80 -pad -ip
-DINTEL_VML -traceback -assume buffered_io -I$(MKLROOT)/include
Linker Flags: $(FOPT) -L$(MKLROOT)/lib/$(MKL_TARGET_ARCH)
-lpthread -lm -ldl -liomp5
Preprocessor flags: '-DParallel'
R_LIB (LAPACK+BLAS): -lmkl_intel_lp64 -lmkl_intel_thread
-lmkl_core

Current settings:
O Compiler options: -O1 -FR -mp1 -w -prec_div -pc80 -pad -ip

I assume compilation already went well and that no error messages were
given after "Compile time errors (if any) were" [
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg06000.html
,
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg17271.html
].  If so, no need to recompile.  Else, you need to check the
compile.msg file(s) for the errors [
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg06001.html
].

You mentioned that only this is the problem, but reported nothing
additional on it.  So, nobody can help you.

The .bashrc file usually should not be empty.  Did you view it in the
wrong directory (e.g., using "cat .bashrc" instead of "cat ~/.bashrc")?
I guess "userconfig" ran successfully or did it fail?

It sounds like you were able to run w2web and setup the id and password
just fine.  Is an incorrect hostname (IP address) or firewall causing
the problem then?

You have those options below, so that should be fine.  The openmp should
give the serial calculations some parallelization.  The "intel openmpi"
is only need for mpi parallelization.

Dear Prof. Gavin,
I'm using Wien2k for the first time & not familiar with much of that. So, I
really don't have idea what information do I need to share with. Anyway,
thanks a lot for your support. This is the current status.

I have set w2web with userid and password.

***@anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p:~/.w2web/anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p/conf$

Checking for Installation in /home/anupriya/.w2web/anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p

w2web server started, now point your web browser to
http://localhost:7890

But when I was browsing to the above mentioned address, it was not
loading...It may be due to firewall causing problem..how to find which one
is creating problem to load the browser?

I didn't find any compile.msg file from any of SRC_* folder..

After giving the command "cat ~/.bashrc", am finding the following file.

Your .bashrc seems okay.  It looks like w2web started just fine.

You may want to check that the w2web process is running as it should be,
for example:

***@computername:~$ ps -ef | grep w2web
username     2557  1701  0 07:45 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl
/home/username/WIEN2k/SRC_w2web/bin/w2web
username     2592  2531  0 07:46 pts/0    00:00:00 grep --color=auto w2web

What web browser are you using (and on which system)?  If using firefox,
is Work Offline unchecked [
https://www.howtogeek.com/263854/how-to-enable-offline-browsing-in-firefox/
].  If Work Offline is checked, it might not work.

What is the exact error message the browser gives you with
http://localhost:7890?

What Linux operating system are you using (Ubuntu, Fedora, ...) and version?

Are you able to ping localhost [
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2217432 ]?  Some operating
system might use something different from localhost like
localhost.localdomain [
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg10768.html
] or an ip address might have to be used (e.g., 127.0.0.1) [
https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg02143.html ]

If you look online, you should be able to find information on disabling
the operating system firewall [
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-enable-disable-firewall-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux
], which you could try.

The w2web process is running fine..

***@anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p:~$ ps -ef | grep w2web
anupriya 10398 1704 0 18:35 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl

anupriya 10590 10316 0 18:53 pts/2 00:00:00 grep --color=auto w2web

I am using firefox as web browser in a PC having ubuntu 16.04 operating
system. Work offline is unchecked.

w2web is not at all loading and hence no error message it is showing(
http://localhost:7890)
<http://localhost:7890/>

you mention
"I didn't find any compile.msg file from any of SRC_* folder.."
seems you did not compile the programs.
did you run all steps for the installation on "http://susi.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/reg_user/wien2k_download/" correctly

Did you run the siteconfig_lapw as described in the manual ? Do you have a Fortran compiler installed ?

Ciao

Betreff: Re: [Wien] Upgrade to Wien2k18.2

Dear Prof. Gavin

The w2web process is running fine..

***@anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p:~$ ps -ef | grep w2web
anupriya 10398 1704 0 18:35 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl /home/anupriya/wien2k_18.2/SRC_w2web/bin/w2web
anupriya 10590 10316 0 18:53 pts/2 00:00:00 grep --color=auto w2web

I am using firefox as web browser in a PC having ubuntu 16.04 operating system. Work offline is unchecked.

w2web is not at all loading and hence no error message it is showing(http://localhost:7890)
<http://localhost:7890/>

Yes I am able to ping the localhost with ip address 127.0.0.1

Your .bashrc seems okay. It looks like w2web started just fine.

You may want to check that the w2web process is running as it should be, for example:

***@computername:~$ ps -ef | grep w2web
username 2557 1701 0 07:45 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl /home/username/WIEN2k/SRC_w2web/bin/w2web
username 2592 2531 0 07:46 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --color=auto w2web

What web browser are you using (and on which system)? If using firefox, is Work Offline unchecked [ https://www.howtogeek.com/263854/how-to-enable-offline-browsing-in-firefox/ ]. If Work Offline is checked, it might not work.

What is the exact error message the browser gives you with http://localhost:7890?

What Linux operating system are you using (Ubuntu, Fedora, ...) and version?

Are you able to ping localhost [ https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2217432 ]? Some operating system might use something different from localhost like localhost.localdomain [ https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg10768.html ] or an ip address might have to be used (e.g., 127.0.0.1) [ https://www.mail-archive.com/***@zeus.theochem.tuwien.ac.at/msg02143.html ]

If you look online, you should be able to find information on disabling the operating system firewall [ https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-enable-disable-firewall-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux ], which you could try.

Dear Prof. Gavin,
I'm using Wien2k for the first time & not familiar with much of that. So, I really don't have idea what information do I need to share with. Anyway, thanks a lot for your support. This is the current status.

I have set w2web with userid and password.

***@anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p:~/.w2web/anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p/conf$<mailto:***@anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p:~/.w2web/anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p/conf$> w2web

Checking for Installation in /home/anupriya/.w2web/anupriya-ThinkCentre-M93p

w2web server started, now point your web browser to
http://localhost:7890<http://localhost:7890/>

But when I was browsing to the above mentioned address, it was not loading...It may be due to firewall causing problem..how to find which one is creating problem to load the browser?

I didn't find any compile.msg file from any of SRC_* folder..
